Do I need a Smart Home?
It's frustrating to get a call from your neighbor telling you that you left your garage door open. What do you do? Leave work, drive home and close it or do you ask your neighbor to make a quick dash to close it for you? No matter how you do it, it's a major pain when it happens.
1. Get a Smart Garage Door Opener
Replace your old garage door opener with the Chamberlain Liftmaster and connect it to your home network. Download the myQ app and check the garage door yourself using your smartphone. If it was left open, you can close it from anywhere using your smartphone.
2. Get notified when you're a block away
IFTTT is an app that will let you specify triggers and actions for your smart devices. IFTTT stands for If-This-Then-That and it is easy to learn. With IFTTT, you can get a notification if you left the garage door open from as little as a block away from home. That's a lot shorter drive than from work but with Chamberlain Liftmaster, you can pull over and close the door with your smartphone.
3. Turn on house lights when you come home
Apilio will let you specify more complex logic when IFTTT can't, so create an account on Apilio and learn that too. Using Apilio, you can extend the smartness of your Chamberlain Liftmaster by turning on the house lights when you return home.
4. Automatically close your garage door if left open for too long
With IFTTT and Apilio, you can program your garage door opener to automatically close the door if you have left an area. This will ensure that your garage door is not open for thieves to steal from your garage or to break in to your home. Garages left open for too long is an invitation for thieves to rob your home.
Any one of these Chamberlain Liftmaster models will work with myQ and other smart devices.
